Puppy Care

Prepare to Bring Your Puppy Home

It is such an exciting moment—the moment you’ve been waiting for!

Your new puppy will require a lot of love, and attention, as they transition into their new home. Before your puppy arrives, there are a few arrangements, and decisions, to be made. While awaiting the big day, you will need to puppy proof your home, and you will need the right supplies.

Puppy proof your home!

Not only do you want your puppy to be safe, but you want all your “things” to be safe too!
  1. Make sure no exposed cords, or electrical wires, can be chewed on.
  2. Make sure to not leave anything within reach that they shouldn’t chew on (e.g. poison plants, cleaning supplies, etc).
  3. Do not leave small fabric items such as rags, or socks, laying around that may be chewed and swallowed. This can block the intestines and cause an emergency situation.

Train your Puppy to Love it’s Space!

You will need a crate and/or bed for your new puppy to stay in. Crate training is a great help with house breaking, keeps them safe when you are not with them, and provides a space for them that is all their own.

Get Ready for Their Appetite!

Food and water bowls are a must have. Healthy and complete large breed puppy food is very important. They will be weened onto Royal Canine Large Breed Puppy and you will be sent home with a small bag as well.

They’ll Love Going Out With You!

Don’t forget to have a collar, tag, and leash to taking them on walks.

Restrict Their Space!

A care restraint is important for their safety. Plan on where your puppy will be sleeping. Also, choose their eating place, and if there are certain places in the house you do not want them in, use a baby gate to help set boundaries.

Socialize Your New Puppy!

As soon as they finish their vaccinations, socialize them to new places, people and situations. Putting them on a routine and setting boundaries at home will produce a well-behave dog in social environments as well.
